The Rototawai Galleries.

The Homestead Gallery shows the permanent collection – which is hung in the reception rooms throughout the lower floor of the house.

In addition to the main gallery, a new gallery space has been opened which will enable art lovers to return to Rototāwai to view new works and feature exhibitions.

The Rototawai Collection.

Anna has been an avid collector of art for over 50 years. The Collection at Rototāwai is recognised as a significant group of works (painting and sculpture) by established contemporary New Zealand Artists.

The development of the Rototāwai galleries and refurbishment of the Homestead and gardens has been a passion project for Anna and the Foundation team over a number of years, ensuring the Homestead, Collection, Park and Gardens will be available to the public in perpetuity.

  • The Homestead gallery is home to the Anna Bidwill Collection.

While Anna’s full collection cannot be presented at Rototāwai, the Garden gallery is a new space that will enable visitors to view new works - and enjoy feature exhibitions throughout the year.

  • Alongside the permanent collection, the Garden gallery officially opened by the Minister for Arts, Culture and Heritage, the Honourable Paul Goldsmith, on 26 March 2026.

The new gallery space will enable visitors to view new works, feature exhibitions and enjoy events over time.

  • The Garden gallery is currently showing works from 3 private collections – which all focus on New Zealand art.

Works have been kindly loaned from the Woolstore Collection, the Stevenson Collection, and are hung alongside new works from the Anna Bidwill collection that are not part of the permanent collection on display in the homestead gallery at Rototāwai.

  • Visitors begin their tour in the Garden gallery which shows changing exhibitions. Then visitors view the permanent collection, which is hung in the reception rooms throughout the lower floor of the Homestead.

Once the galleries have been viewed, we encourage visitors to take a garden walk.

  • During the month of April 2026, the galleries and gardens will be open from 10am - 3pm every Saturday & Sunday – starting Saturday the 4th of April.
